Gus & Juli’s Villwock Farms Wedding Video in Freelandville, IN

Gus and Juli’s wedding took place at Bethel Church followed by a reception at Villwock Farms in Freelandville, Indiana. The wedding was filled with joy from the start of the day to the end.

Juli is loving excitement embodied. Gus described Juli, saying she has a big heart. Her heart could be seen during the wedding day by how giddy she was. There's a clip in the middle of the film where her leg is shaking non-stop. Giddy. You could see it by the way she treated her friends and family. You could also hear it. Juli has no filter. As Juli drove off in their getaway car, she exclaimed in disbelief, "My name is Juli Dye! My name is Juli Dye! (giggles)." That's Juli for you.

If Juli is the kite in the relationship, then Gus is the anchor. Julie described him as a 'constant' in the relationship. She said, "he is very loyal." You could see this throughout the day. He was a great host to his groomsmen and treated our crew very kindly by ensuring we got what we needed. He nervously paced in anticipation for his bride.

The two met through a chance encounter at Planet Fitness. The chance encounter led to many more 'chance' encounters. Her friends noticed Juli had grown an interest in fitness. A friend's party, some dates, and many conversations later, they were set to get married.

The day started at family homes—Juli at her grandparents and Gus at Juli's parents.

Pro Tip: If your wedding is close to home, I think it's a great idea to get ready at a place that means something to you, such as a childhood home. From a filmmaking perspective, it establishes authenticity and is filled with meaning for you.

Although Juli and Gus were apart, it was apparent they were both thinking about each other.

Juli & Gus seemed to be the first in their friend group to get married. The day had a youthful feel to it. The monotony of the working life had not sucked out the fun from this group—the new how to have a good time.

In addition, the parents gave them the space to make the day their own. That they did, they kept it simple, leaving out the extra you might find at other weddings. What was left was a good time surrounded by their closest friends and family.

It makes me think of the verse from Matthew 6:25

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.

Like many couples, Juli and Gus could have been gripped by the so-called "crucial" details on a wedding day. Crucial information like the way the settings are placed or the seating arrangements. Or, Juli and Gus could have been swept away by worry because she was pregnant. Most people I know would have been concerned about their baby bump. Not Juli. Juli joked at it and proceeded to enjoy every second of the day. A sign of properly aligned priorities.

For that, and so much more, I am grateful to have documented their day.

On a Personal Note

Juli and Gus offered the greatest compliment I will ever receive.

They initially reached out for a date in September. Unfortunately, I had to inform them that I was booked on the date, including a string of weddings leading to the end of October. Juli messaged back saying something along the lines of 'we want you at our wedding, we will find a date that works. We landed on October 26th.

Come to find out, Juli had a baby on the way. To move the date back a month was not a small ask. The baby bump would be more than a bump by then. Many women would be self-conscious about the decision but not Juli. She gleefully accepted, and the rest is history!

You won’t regret it, if you have to try to justify it just think 40 years from now that video might mean more to you then than right now. That day plays over in my head but seeing it on video is absolutely priceless.
